CAPMAN CLOSES ITS NEWEST FUND ON EUR 253 MILLION

30/12/2002

The investment strategy of CapMan Equity VII is in line with that of earlier CapMan funds. About two-thirds of the capital will be invested in mid-sized buy-outs and about one-third in technology companies in the IT and telecommunications sectors, with main focus on investments in Nordic companies. The fund has already completed its first deals. To date, CapMan Equity VII’s portfolio companies are RGS90 A/S, the Danish waste management company; Tieturi Oy, Finland’s leading provider of IT training; and Avitec AB, the Swedish supplier of repeaters and repeater systems to improve radio coverage. In addition the fund has decided to invest in Nordkalk Corporation, the leading producer of limestone-based products in Northern Europe, as well as in three Swedish and Danish technology companies.

Twenty-three institutional investors have committed to CapMan Equity VII. 42 per cent of the capital is from Finnish investors and 58 per cent mainly from other Nordic investors. Over 70 per cent of the capital is from Nordic pension funds and life insurance companies. About half of the capital is from new investors and the other half from investors who have also committed to earlier CapMan funds. CapMan has committed EUR 16 million to the fund.

Ari Tolppanen, CEO of CapMan Plc: “In spite of the difficult fundraising environment this year, we have succeeded in raising the largest fund in the history of CapMan. We are very pleased with the end result of the fundraising, both in terms of the amount of commitments and their geographical distribution. The fund’s investor base is as Nordic as the investment focus of the fund itself.”
