Walki and Mondi to terminate the acquisition agreement
In May 2015, Mondi Group agreed to acquire two of Walki Group’s extrusion coatings plants located in Pietarsaari, Finland and Wroclaw, Poland. The deal was subject to competition clearance. Following the announcement, Mondi and Walki have been in discussions with the European Commission acting as competition authority about ways to alleviate concerns about the impact on the competitive environment. However, no workable solution suitable for all parties has been found and therefore Mondi has decided to withdraw the application to the Commission and terminate the acquisition agreement.
The Industrial Packaging business, including the Pietarsaari and Wroclaw plants, will remain an integral part of Walki’s strategy. Walki is committed to develop all of its sites in Finland, Poland, Germany, the UK, the Netherlands, Russia and China.
