CapMan Infra’s acquisition of Haminan Energia, a district heating and electricity network operator in Hamina, Finland, was completed in October 2024. This enabled a significant investment in a new waste heat pump plant to utilise waste heat from Google’s data centre in the district heating network, supporting CapMan Infra’s objective of developing local energy infrastructure while reducing emissions.
From ownership to implementation
Following the acquisition, the construction of the waste heat pump commenced. The project was delivered within a year, with first heat supplied in Q4 2025. The investment allows Haminan Energia to provide emission-free district heating and expand the district heating network.
Once fully operational, the waste heat facility will cover around 70–75% of Hamina’s district heating energy needs, corresponding to the heating requirements of around 2,000 residential apartments. By reducing the use of fossil fuels, the project cuts CO₂ emissions and supports Hamina’s overall carbon neutrality.

Creating value through local energy infrastructure
In addition to reducing emissions, the project lowers fuel costs and improves the profitability of the district heating business. The waste heat pump investment strengthens the resilience of Hamina’s production portfolio and supports the local energy transition.
“The project demonstrates how investment, ownership and cooperation can translate sustainability objectives into concrete outcomes. Through active ownership, CapMan Infra has enabled a solution that reduces emissions, supports the energy transition and contributes to the long-term development of Hamina’s energy infrastructure,” says Sauli Antila, Operating Director at CapMan Infra.
