Sustainability themes

We develop real estate with a life-cycle perspective that reduces climate and nature impacts while progressively moving towards a nature-positive and climate net-positive society. Rather than claiming that buildings already give more than they take, our long‑term ambition is to narrow the gap between unavoidable impacts and the regenerative potential enabled by emerging technologies, circular solutions, and nature‑positive design. Central to this approach is our life-cycle view of real estate development: in both renovations and new builds, we invest in and apply new solutions that allow us to maximise overall life-cycle value while minimising life-cycle emissions and negative nature-related impacts. This direction is grounded in our climate net‑zero targets under the Science Based Targets initiative’s Buildings Criteria, and further detailed in our sustainability programme, available below.

Our human-centric real estate approach means developing properties that are genuinely centred on their users and the surrounding community. We aim to create inclusive real estate that delights our tenants and contributes to the development of liveable, thriving communities. Human-centric real estate also means ensuring fair, safe and healthy working conditions across our operations and throughout our supply chains.

We are accountable for our actions and transparent about our environmental, social and governance impacts. We apply robust sustainability practices, management and reporting, and promote transparency throughout our value chain through strong supply-chain management. We also provide targeted trainings to ensure that our employees and partners have the awareness and tools needed to comply with our standards and act as active partners on our sustainability journey.

Mika Matikainen

Mika Matikainen

Managing Partner Management Group
Mika Matikainen joined CapMan in 2006, one year after the inception of CapMan Real Estate, and became the head of CapMan Real Estate and a management group member of CapMan in 2010. Matikainen has, together with his team, expanded CapMan Real Estate from a local Finnish player into a pan-Nordic asset manager with operations in Finland, Sweden, Denmark and Norway. Simultaneously the investor base of CapMan Real Estate has internationalised substantially, now including international institutional investors from Europe, North America and Asia. Prior to CapMan, he worked for UBS Investment Bank in London.

Torsten Bjerregaard

Torsten Bjerregaard

Managing Partner, Chief Investment Officer Real Estate
Torsten joined CapMan Real Estate in 2012 to assist with the expansion of the real estate group outside Finland. He has mainly been involved with the Nordic value add real estate funds, and have a particular focus on Denmark. He is a member of the Investment Committee. Prior to CapMan Real Estate, he and partner Ed Williams ran their own company, NEP Partners. He has also been working for Lehman Brothers Real Estate Partners and spent 10 years working for a mid-size real estate company in the US. In his spare time Torsten enjoys golf, tennis and spending time with his family.

Peter Gill

Partner, Head of CapMan Real Estate Denmark Real Estate
Peter joined CapMan Real Estate in 2016 and is responsible for originating and managing transactions across Denmark. Peter has over 10 years’ experience working on real estate transactions, having previously worked at Bech-Bruun, and PwC’s real estate M&A division. He’s also headed the Capital Markets team at Nybolig Erhverv, one of the largest real estate brokers in Denmark.
